Knowing the trend in the virtual world and on the internet, Top sites for Romanians in 2014 in general, is essential for all those who carry out their activity online and beyond. Because here demand easily meets supply, the latter is increasingly present and richer, and the context is continuously changing.
Therefore, we decided to create a series of articles related to how to track the variation of consumer and internet user preferences.
This first article is designed as a top of the most accessed sites by Romanian users, to see what they follow or what preferences they have, compared to other European countries.
So, here is the list for the top 20 positions in the ranking of the most searched and accessed sites in Romania:
1. Facebook.com
2. Google.ro
3. Youtube.com
4. Google.com
5. Yahoo.com
6. Olx.ro
7. Tocmai.ro
8. Filelist.ro
9. Bet365 (Sports betting)
10. Wikipedia.org
11. Ask.com (search engine)
12. Emag.ro
13. Ask.fm (social network)
14. Adcash.com (advertising network)
15. Imdb.com (Movies)
16. Redtube.com (Adult)
17. Rol.ro (News and Media)
18. Gameforge.com (Games)
19. Wordpress.com (Internet and Telecom)
20. Xnxx.com (Adult)
If I expected the first positions, this top also includes sites I did not expect to see in the top 1000…. Maybe I exaggerate, but I did not think that among the top preferences of Romanians there are 2 adult sites. Also, equally surprising is the presence of Ask.com and Ask.fm, the first being a search engine, the second a social network.
But let's take them one by one.
Facebook is at the top of Romanians' preferences, but also globally, being the most accessed site in the world (although in the USA it is not in first place!). Very interesting is the fact that, although it is first, Facebook pays for ads on Google, which bring it only about 2% of visitors, although it does not seem to need it.
If we consider positions 2 and 4, we see that those who access Google are split between .ro and .com, which makes their number seem smaller. Debatable!
About olx.ro and tocmai.ro I can say they occupy a very good position, but thinking that we are in Romania, and Romanians are great bargain hunters, the matter is justified. In addition, advertising seems to be worth all the money! The high percentage of visits from direct traffic (brought by offline ads) clearly shows that people know exactly what to look for, without having to resort to Google searches.
Specialized in file sharing, filelist.ro occupies an honorable position 8, although it does not benefit from paid advertising, most of its traffic being direct or from referral.
The position of emag.ro seems to be declining in Romanians' preferences, although this site constantly diversifies its offer, always introducing new categories and types of products and, in addition, benefits from very large advertising, both online and offline.
Encouraging is, I would say, the position of Wikipedia.org, which ranks 10th in our top. This site is self-financed through donations and sponsorships, but has managed to occupy, worldwide, a 7th place overall, and 1st place in its category. Traffic comes overwhelmingly from searches, over 83% of those who visit the site come from search, especially Google.
In the top 50 sites accessed by Romanians there are also travel sites, car sales, news (general, sports, entertainment), but those from the internet and telecom category dominate (Live.com, Bing.com, Twitter.com, etc.)
