You've probably noticed lately that our website loads faster. Well, the reason is very simple: we moved to a new hosting, our own hosting that is in line with the trends of our times: in the CLOUD.
Currently, there are several CLOUD service providers globally, among which we can mention IBM, Google VMWare, CenturyLink. But the undisputed leaders in this field are Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft.
Simply put, AWS is by far the leader in providing cloud services. AWS holds the largest Cloud Compute capacity (from certain sources, it could be said they have 10 times more capacity than all the other cloud providers in the top 15 combined).
If AWS did not exist, then Microsoft, with its cloud service called AZURE, would dominate the market, having twice the capacity of all the other providers behind it.
However, we will focus on Microsoft Azure, as it is the "home" we moved to, being Microsoft partners ourselves.
What does Microsoft Azure offer us?
We can say it offers us pretty much everything that any individual or legal entity in IT needs: from web hosting to the most complete IT infrastructures.
Thus, instead of having a room full of racks with servers, storages, UPSs, internet lines (at least 2: one main and one backup), we can define, that is set up, an entire "server room" in the cloud that can be accessed from anywhere in the world with just an internet connection. We don’t have to worry about security either. Microsoft helps us with security certificates (VPN).
What reasons could we find against the cloud?
I think the first reason that comes to mind would be access speed. This can be influenced by two aspects, namely the internet speed of our provider and the distance between us and the Data Center.
As you probably know, Romania has one of the highest internet speeds in the world (a very honorable 4th place), so this aspect cannot be an impediment.
Regarding the second element, namely distance, we must say that Microsoft has several Data Centers spread globally. Therefore, it is best to use the closest location.
So, if we haven’t convinced you with these details about the Cloud, or if you want to obtain such services yourselves, you have only two options left:
1. Either write to us in the comments section at the end of this article, or send us an email to one of the email addresses on the site, or leave us a message through the contact form.
2. Or try Microsoft Azure yourselves (or another cloud solution that covers your needs).
We will start a new section on our blog where we will post various information about how to set up some elements that we ourselves have encountered. So, come back!
P.S.: Did you know that Microsoft tested for the first time and successfully the first underwater data center? The low temperature of the water keeps the equipment temperature constant as well, which translates into much lower energy consumption.
