From 2004 until today, Facebook has undergone a remarkable evolution, both in design and in terms of the functions and features of its various elements. We will review the most important changes, illustrated with some photos, for which we thank www.forbes.com.

Facebook 2004
In 2004, when it was launched, Facebook or “Thefacebook” as it was called then, was available only to Harvard University students, as can be seen in this screenshot from the early days of the network.

Although many of today's options and elements did not exist, the network was becoming increasingly popular.

Facebook 2006
The year 2006 brought a major redesign, introducing the News feed section.
In 2009 another change appeared, which has remained until today, in a slightly modified form. The “Home Page” was populated with the “Real-Time Stream,” and users were asked for the first time “What are you thinking about,” encouraging them to update their status.

The year 2010 brought the next change to the profile page.

At the same time, the possibility to create, besides a personal page, a page dedicated to a celebrity or a business appeared on Facebook. Currently, these pages are increasingly numerous and used mainly for advertising purposes.

Facebook 2010
2011 was the year that brought many changes: the term “Wall” was used for the first time for the famous social network, the Timeline appeared, and video calling was introduced.

In 2012, following the growing popularity of Facebook on smartphones, the App Center was launched, which initially featured mainly games.

Since 2012, the changes have consisted mostly of small design elements and additional options.
